Lantawan Homes Integrated Workers Association (LHIWA)

Springing out from being displaced families due to strong natural calamities, the business showed resilience by embracing hydroponics. The technology (formulation and process), was shared by faculty and student researchers from CTU–Tuburan Campus.  The business is located in Antipolo, Tuburan, Cebu, while rather far from the commercial center of the municipality, the demand for fresh greens has steadily climbed in recent years, making the business profitable.

Now, the group has expanded its operations by adding new lettuce varieties to its product line, and opening another greenhouse facility to help meet the growing demand for fresh lettuce.  It has strengthened its marketing network, and is now a regular supplier of fresh lettuce to neighboring restaurants.  The LGU has also provided the business a place in the public market for more visibility to the possible target customers.

In 2024, LHIWA underwent training in mushroom production, and is now adding the product to their product line.

To transform our rural community  into a thriving hub of sustainable agriculture by pioneering innovative hydroponics technology, ensuring year-round access to fresh, nutritious lettuce and other agricultural products, and empowering local farmers to achieve food security and economic resilience.

Our mission is to establish a community-based hydroponics lettuce production system, and other related agri-products that that leverage cutting-edge technology, sustainable practices, and local collaboration. We aim to provide high-quality, pesticide-free lettuce to local and regional markets, while creating livelihood opportunities, promoting environmental stewardship, and improving nutrition in rural areas.
