CTU, CAPSU strengthen partnership through Co-Incubation and Scientific Publication Collaboration

Gearing towards a beneficial partnership, Cebu Technological University (CTU) embarked on a learning endeavor towards co-incubation and scientific publication collaboration with Capiz State University (CAPSU) on February 17-19, 2025, at CAPSU, Roxas City, Capiz. Represented by the CTU Agri-Aqua Technology Business Incubation (ATBI) and Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management team, Engr. Naomi A. Bajao, Dr. Marlou C. Godinez, and Dr. Janeth S. Ugang, along with Project Staff Mr. Jessie Cole and Ms. Sheila Mae Edoloverio, engaged in discussions and activities aimed at fostering innovation and research collaborations. The CAPSU Intellectual Property and Management Office (IPMO) team welcomed the delegation and facilitated a courtesy call to their university president, Dr. Efren L. Linan.
This collaboration between CTU and CAPSU marks the beginning of a promising partnership to enhance research, technology incubation, and commercialization efforts. Both universities are poised to contribute significantly to regional and national innovation landscapes through shared knowledge and best practices.
The second day focused on an in-depth collaboration meeting about co-incubation and scientific publication. Dr. Adrian P. Ybañez, CTU ATBI’s Project Leader, joined the Zoom discussion to share his expertise and insights on potential collaborative efforts. This crucial meeting culminated in signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two universities, signifying a shared commitment to strengthening research and technology transfer initiatives.
To enrich the learning experience further, the CTU delegation toured the ABH Office to gain insights into CAPSU’s operational structures. Additionally, they visited the historic Panay Bell at Panay, Capiz, offering a glimpse into the region’s cultural heritage and history.
CAPSU has demonstrated a strong commitment to intellectual property (IP) management and technology commercialization through the following best practices: Yearly IP Awareness Seminar to enhance faculty and student understanding of intellectual property rights. A yearly IP audit ensures continuous monitoring and improvement of intellectual property assets. Training on Patent Search, Patent Drafting, and Online Filings to equip researchers with essential patenting skills. Training on Technology Promotion and Commercialization to facilitate the transition of research outputs into market-ready technologies. Technology Pitching and Reverse Pitching sessions to connect innovators with potential investors and stakeholders. Creation of an IPMO Organizational Structure to streamline IP management processes. Harmonized IP Policy to standardize regulations on intellectual property rights. Formation of a Technology Transfer Team to oversee commercialization efforts. Licensing of Technologies to Incubatees to promote entrepreneurship and economic growth.
