Empowering Innovation through Qualitative Research: NVivo Training Equips Project and Research Staff for Impactful Publications and Researches

A one-day Capacity Building Workshop on NVivo for Project-Based Research and Publication was successfully conducted on May 26, 2025, at the Cebu Grand Hotel, N. Escario Street, Cebu City. The event brought together faculty members, researchers, and project staff to explore the use of NVivo—a qualitative data analysis software—in advancing innovation, research quality, and societal impact through evidence-based project work and publication.

The main core of the workshop was delivered by Dr. Nicamil K. Sanchez, Chief Executive Officer of The Philippine Consortium Inc., who shared his extensive expertise on using NVivo for managing qualitative research projects. His lecture covered key topics including setting up and managing qualitative projects, preparing and analyzing data, applying coding strategies, theory development, and utilizing NVivo’s tools for advanced analysis and visualization. His session not only introduced the technical side of NVivo but also highlighted its role in producing research that responds to real-world challenges.

Held at a pivotal time when higher education institutions are encouraged to align their research with social responsibility and sustainability, the workshop addressed the growing need for tools that support deeper and more rigorous qualitative inquiry. The location, Cebu Grand Hotel, served as a fitting venue as it hosted educators and scholars from Central Visayas—an area actively engaged in agricultural, technological, and community-centered research. The event was formally opened by Dr. Adrian P. Ybañez, IMGPVD Director and RATBI/IPTBM Project Leader, who also facilitated the afternoon research and publication discussion that further deepened participants’ understanding of how qualitative data can contribute to scholarly dissemination and institutional goals.

The event concluded with an open forum and the awarding of certificates to both the guest speaker and the participants. More than just a training, the workshop fostered a shared commitment among researchers to apply innovative tools in addressing pressing societal issues. With enriched skills and renewed direction, participants are now better equipped to carry out meaningful research and contribute to publication efforts that support institutional development and community transformation.

In alignment with WURI’s values, this capacity-building initiative demonstrated how innovation in education and technology can be leveraged to advance socially responsive research practices. It emphasized the long-term impact of equipping educators and researchers with tools that not only enhance academic outputs but also ensure that their work remains grounded in real-world relevance and societal progress.
